OTTAWA–Canada stood alone before a United Nations human rights council yesterday, the only one among 47 nations to oppose a motion condemning the Israeli military offensive in Gaza.
The vote before the Geneva-based body shows the Stephen Harper government has abandoned a more even-handed approach to the Middle East in favour of unalloyed support of Israel, according to some long-time observers.

George Galloway, a British member of Parliament, has been banned from Canada on security grounds, the country’s immigration service has confirmed.
Mr Galloway, a Respect Party MP, said the ban was “idiotic” and he would look at legal action to try to overturn it.

Then Couillard said publicly that Bernier had unacceptable opinions regadring the war in Afghanistan, as Bernier said to her that the whole war was about opium culture and drug trade (I don’t remember if he said it was orchestrated by the secret service or any “crime syndicate” in general).
I remember when I saw the “brigadier général” (of the canadian army) Guy Laroche admitting that the “ex-minister of Foreign Affairs” Maxime Bernier put them in a big embarassment when he asked for the sacking of the governor of Kandahar. Laroche even admitted that this scandal happening at this point was very “good timing” for the army and its mission in Afghanistan! I was flabbergasted, I just couldn’t move.
